Trading Technologies Integrates Bitstamp to Offer…

Trading Technologies (TT) has connected its multi-asset trading platform directly to Bitstamp by Robinhood, giving institutional clients access to cryptocurrency spot and derivatives markets through the same execution environment they use for futures, fixed income and foreign exchange. The integration, announced on November 2, makes TT the first major traditional-markets order and execution management system (OEMS) to establish direct connectivity with Bitstamp. It expands the exchange’s institutional distribution beyond predominantly crypto-native trading platforms and into established capital markets infrastructure.

The connection is available to institutional clients across supported jurisdictions, with particular emphasis on Asia-Pacific and North America. Neither company disclosed expected trading volumes, client commitments or commercial terms.

What Does the Integration Change for Institutional Trading Desks?

Through the TT platform, institutional traders can access Bitstamp’s spot and perpetual futures liquidity using existing execution tools, risk controls and post-trade workflows.

For firms trading across traditional and digital asset markets, the connection reduces the need to operate separate execution interfaces. Proprietary trading firms, asset managers and institutional desks can incorporate Bitstamp market access into the infrastructure already used for other asset classes.

Tomo Tokuyama, executive vice president and managing director of FX at Trading Technologies, said institutional clients increasingly want digital asset access without abandoning established trading systems.

The arrangement also extends TT’s existing cryptocurrency connectivity. In June 2025, the company connected to GFO-X, the UK-regulated crypto derivatives exchange, allowing clients to trade centrally cleared Bitcoin futures and options through its platform.

The two connections serve different market segments. GFO-X offers centrally cleared derivatives, while Bitstamp provides access to cryptocurrency spot markets and derivatives. Institutions can now evaluate these venues within a broader execution infrastructure, although differences in clearing, custody and margin arrangements remain.

Investor Takeaway

Direct OEMS connectivity lowers operational barriers to institutional crypto trading, but a common execution interface does not eliminate differences in counterparty exposure or settlement risk.

Why Does Bitstamp Need Traditional Markets Connectivity?

For Bitstamp, the partnership provides a distribution channel to institutional traders who may not use dedicated cryptocurrency trading systems.

Rather than requiring those clients to establish separate execution workflows, Bitstamp can offer its liquidity through TT’s existing institutional network. That creates an opportunity to attract trading activity from proprietary desks, hedge funds and other firms already active in traditional financial markets.

The integration follows Robinhood’s $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp, completed in June 2025. The purchase gave Robinhood an established international exchange and a foothold in institutional cryptocurrency trading.

Bitstamp has since become an important contributor to Robinhood’s cryptocurrency activity. In August, the exchange generated $10.1 billion of Robinhood’s combined $17.5 billion crypto trading volume, accounting for the majority of activity across the two platforms.

Nicola White, vice president of institutional crypto and general manager of Bitstamp by Robinhood, described the TT connection as part of the exchange’s expansion of institutional distribution partnerships.

However, broader connectivity does not guarantee additional liquidity. The commercial impact will depend on whether TT’s institutional customers route meaningful trading volumes to Bitstamp and whether the venue can compete on execution quality, pricing and available markets.

How Does the Deal Fit TT’s Multi-Asset Expansion?

The Bitstamp connection forms part of Trading Technologies’ effort to consolidate execution and risk management across asset classes.

In September, TT acquired TRAFiX, an equities and equity-options OEMS provider with more than 200 customers and connectivity to over 100 trading venues.

That acquisition expanded TT’s coverage into global equities and equity options, complementing its existing businesses in futures, FX, fixed income and digital assets.

The Bitstamp integration addresses a different requirement. Rather than adding an asset-class management system, it connects an additional cryptocurrency liquidity venue to TT’s institutional execution network.

For institutions, the potential benefit is having more trading activity managed through fewer systems. However, maintaining consistent risk monitoring across different instruments requires more than common connectivity. Position measurement, collateral requirements and post-trade obligations vary substantially between conventional securities, centrally cleared derivatives and cryptocurrency markets.

Investor Takeaway

TT gains another venue within its multi-asset offering, while Bitstamp gains access to established institutional distribution without building a separate traditional-markets OEMS.

What Will Determine the Partnership’s Commercial Impact?

The companies said they will also collaborate on educational initiatives and industry events intended to support institutional participation in digital asset markets.

The immediate opportunity is concentrated in institutions that already use TT and want to expand into cryptocurrency trading. The connection could reduce onboarding and workflow friction, although access remains subject to local market availability and applicable trading requirements.

Neither company has provided figures for expected transaction volumes, additional institutional customers or revenue generated through the integration.

For Bitstamp, the important measure will be whether direct access through TT produces incremental institutional trading activity. For Trading Technologies, the test is whether clients increasingly use its existing platform to manage cryptocurrency execution alongside their traditional market operations.
