Dow futures gain over 200 points on Monday: 5 things to know before Wall Street opens

Dow futures showed a positive trajectory Monday morning, climbing amid growing optimism over a potential end to the longest US government shutdown in history.

The futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by over 200 points, reflecting a 0.2% to 0.28% gain as Senate leaders moved forward with a bill aimed at reopening government operations.

Not just Dow Jones, the futures of other indices also witnessed substantial gains as Nasdaq futures rose over 375 points while the S&P 500 futures rallied over 70 points before the opening bell on Monday.

5 things to know before Wall Street opens

1. In a major breakthrough between the major political parties in the United States, the Senate voted 60-40 on advancing a bill to end the US government shutdown.

This bipartisan agreement, backed by eight Senate Democrats joining Republicans, aims to reopen the government through January 30, 2026.

The bill includes protection for federal workers, including provisions to protect federal employees from layoffs and guarantee back pay for those furloughed.

The deal also calls for a future vote on extending healthcare subsidies, a sticking point during negotiations.

2. China has hit pause on its export controls for key minerals and rare earth elements going to the US, marking a major step toward cooling down trade tensions.

The temporary suspension, which runs until November 2026, rolls back restrictions first announced in October 2025 on materials crucial for things like semiconductors, lithium batteries, and defense tech.

In a big shift, Beijing has also lifted its bans on exports of gallium, germanium, and antimony, all essential ingredients in advanced chipmaking and military systems.

3. Pfizer just clinched a massive $10 billion deal to buy Metsera, a company developing obesity drugs, and it did so after beating out Danish heavyweight Novo Nordisk in a heated bidding war.

Under the new offer, Pfizer is valuing Metsera at $86.25 per share, with $65.60 in cash and another $20.65 tied to performance-based value rights.

Metsera’s board has given the deal its full backing, citing fewer legal and regulatory hurdles than Novo’s proposal.

4. Gold prices jumped more than 1% on November 10, 2025, as traders grew increasingly confident that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates in December.

The rally also came amid growing worries about a slowing global economy.

Spot gold climbed 1.4% to $4,053.40 an ounce, while US gold futures rose 1.3% to $4,062.40.

The move was fueled by weak US economic data, including job losses and falling consumer confidence, as the country continues to grapple with its longest-ever government shutdown.

5. Global markets rallied on Monday as the possible resolution to the US government shutdown sparked a wave of optimism among investors.

Asian equities surged with South Korea’s Kospi jumping 3%, Japan’s Nikkei rising 1%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gaining 0.47%.

European markets also climbed, with major indices like EUROSTOXX 50 and Germany’s DAX up about 1.3%.

The rally reflected relief among investors that political uncertainty might ease, alongside renewed confidence in technology and semiconductor stocks in Asia.
